Horse mad and art focused my parents gave me a ‘How to Draw Horses’ book for my 7th birthday. I distinctly remember being firmly occupied for hours trying to follow the visual instructions. Pencil on paper, I was so frustrated unable to get close to the clean lines and fine shading illustrated in the book.
However perseverance and determination gave way to a boastful teenager that believed she could draw horses in any pose - all from her imagination. But somehow I seemed content that my drawings evolved to be mine and never quite resembled those ‘How to Draw’ illustrations.

I had an itinerant childhood. Born in Montreal, Canada my adopted family moved frequently due to my fathers career. I attended 6 schools and lived in 8 different houses by the age of 16 - both in Canada and here in England. In hind site it probably wasn’t the most solid of upbringings but my family life was secure and loving and it opened my eyes to a wider aspect of people and places. During this time, art was always my chosen subject in school and pastime at home.

I began my higher learning studying Fine Art at university, after a year migrating to study Visual Communications at the Alberta Collage of Art opting to follow a more practical educational path. On graduation I moved to Toronto and worked in the art departments of several magazines then started my own graphic design business in 1990.

Doug came into my life a few years later and I moved to the Scottish countryside to be with him. Unfamiliar with my environment I began drawing and painting animals because I loved capturing movement and colour. I enjoyed the mass migration of geese whooping and hollering across a farm yard, the full-eyed stare of a sheep and the majesty of the rooster. These subjects were positive, happy and full of energy as I was adjusting to life in a new country.

I exhibited at local galleries then a friend offered me a stand at the CLA Game Fair in 1995. I found it exhilarating to present my paintings myself and meet the clients who purchased my work. I have continued to paint and exhibit at shows and events ever since…with the help of my fab husband Doug: the heavy lifter of display boards and companion through rain and shine.
